Fremantle After Dark

A dark-history night walk: gather the documented record at the colony's first gaol, the World-Heritage prison and the old Lunatic Asylum, then separate true history from ghost-tour legend. Sober, grounded, and heavier than any spectre.

The case opens

Fremantle sells ghost tours after dark β€” torchlit walks and whispered hauntings. You are

after something harder: the truth beneath the legend. Gather what is documented at each

place, and at the end, say what truly haunts this town.

The grand Gothic building on the hill β€” today an arts centre, but built by convict hands

between 1861 and 1868, and from 1865 the Fremantle Lunatic Asylum.

Hundreds of patients were held here. Note it β€” this is a place of real suffering, not a

stage set.

The darker record: after two suspicious deaths drew the local press, an official enquiry

judged the place "unfit," and the patients were moved out between 1901 and 1909.

Some say the asylum's dead still walk these halls. That part is legend β€” the suffering,

though, was real.

β€œThe torchlight tours sell hauntings β€” but the documented horror here is real and ordinary. What did the law do behind these walls?”
